January 15-17, 2003
Irvine, California
The
Tenth U.S.-Japan Workshop on Global Change with its focus on Water and Climate is
intended to provide opportunities for U.S. and Japanese scientists to forge new
linkages and initiate new research activities in areas that will benefit both
countries. In particular, the
selection of a theme on the Water Cycle and climate recognizes the growing
importance and leadership that our two nations are placing on water. This workshop will identify where new
opportunities exist for collaborative research based on a review of recent
scientific and programmatic developments.
In addition to priority science areas, modeling, observations and assessments/applications
will be highlighted in these discussions.
Specific follow-up actions will be encouraged in the formulation of the
recommendations. The discussions
are expected to strengthen bilateral collaboration and to make U.S.-Japan inputs
into international programs more effective. In particular, bilateral areas of collaboration may include
the Frontier program, the Global Precipitation Mission (GPM) and other
satellite missions to support water cycle science and applications, new USGCRP/CCRI Water Cycle activities and new Japanese initiatives to study water cycle
variations. Also, the discussions
will advance the United States and Japan shared interests in water cycle issues
and programs within UNESCO, IAHS, IGOS-Partners, WCRP and WMO.
All meeting participants
are required to present one poster and provide an abstract of the poster. All participants are asked
to submit a one-page CV to be distributed in the workshop materials. Keynote speakers will submit an
abstract for their talk. See link for submission specifications
